The Corsair Curse Quest Guide

Unravel the fake curse on Captain Tock's crew and confront the traitor behind it all.

Captain Tock's crew in Corsair Cove has fallen ill under a supposed curse. Investigate the conflicting stories from his crew and uncover the real culprit behind the "curse".
Requirements
None.
Items needed
Spade and tinderbox (both obtainable during the quest).
Recommended
Combat level 20+, weapon, armour, food, and energy potions. Bring everything you need before starting as the bank is locked until the quest is complete.
Enemy
Ithoi the Navigator (level 35) - final boss fight.

Walkthrough

  1. Talk to Captain Tock at the crossroads north of Port Sarim. Agree to help and sail with him from the western Rimmington dock to Corsair Cove.

  1. Speak to Ithoi the Navigator in his hut south-west of the cove. Then talk to Arsen, Colin, and Gnocci (all upstairs in their huts) in any order to hear their curse stories.

  1. Get the ogre artefact from Captain Tock on the ship. Head west and enter the Corsair Cove Dungeon. Talk to Chief Tess inside to learn the ogres didn't curse anyone. Return to Arsen afterwards.

  1. Use the telescope in Ithoi's hut to see that the "mermaid" Colin mentioned is actually an ogre named Bugs.

  1. Talk to Colin again. Dig up the buried "doll" west of Ithoi's hut (near the fishing spot) using a spade. It turns out to be a harmless clockwork toy.

  1. Return to Gnocci and speak to him. Speak to Captain Tock again. He reveals Ithoi cooked the meal that made the crew sick. Speak to Gnocci and Arsen again. Confront Ithoi about this and the fact he's about to be fired.
  2. Light the driftwood under Ithoi's hut with a tinderbox. He will use magic to put out the fire, proving he's faking his illness.

  1. Tell Captain Tock that Ithoi is the culprit. He asks you to deal with him.
  2. Return to Ithoi's hut, climb the stairs, and defeat him in the instanced fight. Return to Captain Tock to complete the quest.

Investigating the Curse

Important: The "curse" is completely fake. Ithoi the Navigator poisoned the crew's food so they would think they were cursed and keep him as navigator. You must debunk each crew member's story and then prove Ithoi is lying.

Arsen's Story: He stole an "ogre relic". You prove it's just a toothpick by talking to Chief Tess in the dungeon.
Colin's Story: He offended a mermaid. Use Ithoi's telescope to see it's actually an ogre named Bugs.
Gnocci's Story: He buried a demonic doll. Dig it up - it's just a clockwork toy doll.
Proof: Light the driftwood under Ithoi's hut with a tinderbox. He uses magic to extinguish it, revealing he can move and is faking illness.

The Final Fight

Important: Climb the stairs in Ithoi's hut to start the fight. It is instanced. Bring food if you're low level. Ranged ammo may be lost after the fight.

Ithoi (Level 35): Uses elemental strike spells and Curse. He can be safespotted by running to the telescope and trapping him on one side of the doorway.
Strategy: Bring food and fight normally, or use the safespot for easier kills. After he dies, leave and speak to Captain Tock to finish.

Completing the Quest

  1. After defeating Ithoi, return to Captain Tock on the ship.
  2. Explain what happened. He will thank you and unlock the bank and boat docking in Corsair Cove.

  • Access to Corsair Traitor in the Nightmare Zone

Tips

  • Bring all combat supplies before starting - the bank is locked until the quest ends.
  • You can investigate the three crew members in any order.
  • Use the telescope in Ithoi's hut to debunk Colin's mermaid story.
  • Dig up the "doll" near the fishing spot west of Ithoi's hut - it's just a toy.
  • Light the driftwood under Ithoi's hut to force him to reveal he's faking his illness.
  • For the final fight, bring food and consider the telescope safespot if you're low level.
  • After the quest, you can freely use the bank and dock boats in Corsair Cove.
