Quick Info

Difficulty: Intermediate

Length: Short

Start: Sigmund in Lumbridge Castle.

Required quests: Goblin Diplomacy and Rune Mysteries.

Main danger: Wrong paths in the caves can drop you into the Swamp Caves (explosive gas).

Useful travel: Lumbridge teleport, Varrock teleport, Falador or Mind Altar teleport.

Required Items

  • Pickaxe
  • Light source (bring a tinderbox if using open-flame lights)

Walkthrough

  1. Speak to Sigmund on the upper floor of Lumbridge Castle (near Duke Horacio). He asks you to investigate strange activity in the cellar.

  1. Talk to several Lumbridge residents until one of them mentions seeing a goblin with large eyes in the castle basement. You can ask the Cook, Hans, Father Aereck, Bob, or others around the castle.
  2. Return to Duke Horacio and report what you have heard. He is sceptical but grants you permission to investigate the cellar.
  3. Go down the trapdoor in the castle kitchen to enter the cellar.

  1. Use your pickaxe on the rubble on the eastern side of the cellar (requires 17 Mining). Light your light source and squeeze through the hole (requires 13 Agility).

  1. Walk a short distance into the tunnel and pick up the brooch lying on the ground. Then return the way you came so you do not fall into a pit.
  2. Show the brooch to Duke Horacio. Sigmund claims it is proof of goblin thieves, but the Duke wants more evidence and asks you to consult Reldo the librarian.
  3. Travel to the Varrock Palace library (northern wing) and speak to Reldo. Show him the brooch.
  4. Search the northernmost bookcase on the western wall to find the book “A History of the Goblin Race”. Read the book to learn that the symbol belongs to the ancient Dorgeshuun tribe.

  1. Go to Goblin Village and speak to the Generals. Choose the dialogue options that lead them to teach you the Goblin Bow and Goblin Salute emotes (the correct path includes asking about the Dorgeshuun and requesting both greetings).

  1. Return to the Lumbridge Castle cellar with a lit light source. Follow the correct path through the tunnels carefully (do not stray — wrong turns can drop you into the dangerous Swamp Caves).
  2. At the end of the correct path you will find the Dorgeshuun. Speak to Mistag. He panics at the sight of a surface-dweller.

  1. Perform the Goblin Bow emote in front of Mistag. He realises you know their ancient greeting and becomes friendly. He explains that they accidentally tunnelled into the castle cellar and asks for help making peace.
  2. Talk to Mistag again and ask him to show you the way out. He will escort you back to Lumbridge.
  3. Return to Duke Horacio and tell him you have made contact with the cave goblins. He is still suspicious because some silverware has gone missing from the cellar.
  4. Pickpocket Sigmund (requires 13 Thieving) to obtain a key. Use the key on the chest in the room with the spinning wheel to find H.A.M. robes. Keep these robes for the sequel quest.
  5. Go to the H.A.M. Hideout (trapdoor north-west of Lumbridge Castle). Pick the lock on the trapdoor and enter (this may take several attempts).

  1. Search the crate near the entrance to recover the stolen silverware.
  2. Take the silverware back to Duke Horacio. He will fire Sigmund and give you a signed peace treaty.
  3. Return to the castle cellar. Speak to Kazgar near the entrance; he will automatically guide you through the tunnels to Mistag.
  4. Speak to Mistag while carrying the peace treaty. He will summon the Dorgeshuun leader Ur-tag.
  5. A cutscene will play in the Lumbridge dining hall where the peace treaty is signed. During the cutscene you will see Sigmund outside plotting against the goblins.
  6. The quest is now complete.

Important Warnings

Cave Path: Stay on the correct path through the tunnels. Taking a wrong turn can drop you into the Swamp Caves, where open-flame light sources will explode. Bring a tinderbox or an emergency teleport if using candles, torches or oil lamps.

Light Source: Keep your light source lit while in the tunnels. Open flames are only safe on the correct path.
H.A.M. Robes: Keep the robes you find in Sigmund’s chest — they are required for the sequel quest Death to the Dorgeshuun.
Emotes: Make sure the Goblin Bow and Goblin Salute emotes appear on your emote list after speaking to the Generals.

Completing the Quest

  1. After the peace treaty cutscene finishes, the quest is complete.
  2. You can return the brooch to Mistag later for a mining helmet if you wish.

Rewards

  • 1 Quest Point
  • 3,000 Mining experience
  • Goblin Bow and Goblin Salute emotes
  • Access to the Dorgesh-Kaan mine
  • A ring of life
  • Access to Nardok’s Bone Weapons store (Dorgeshuun crossbow, bone bolts, etc.)
  • Option to receive a mining helmet by returning the brooch to Mistag

Tips

  • Follow the correct tunnel path carefully — using the minimap can help you stay on the safe route.
  • Keep the H.A.M. robes you find; they are needed for Death to the Dorgeshuun.
  • You can stop interviewing Lumbridge residents as soon as one of them mentions the goblin with big eyes.
  • A lockpick is not required for the H.A.M. trapdoor but makes the process faster if your Thieving is low.
  • Completion of this quest is required for Death to the Dorgeshuun and Wanted!.
