Help Veos with a short treasure hunt around Lumbridge and Draynor Village by following clues and digging up an ancient casket.

Veos has arrived in Lumbridge on a treasure hunt after finding a scroll in Great Kourend. Unfamiliar with the area, he needs help following the clues, digging at the correct spots, and recovering an ancient casket.

A spade (the Eastfloor spade does not work).
Recommended
Energy or stamina potions. Amulet of glory for quick travel to Draynor Village.

Walkthrough

  1. Speak to Veos inside The Sheared Ram pub in Lumbridge. Offer to help him with his treasure hunt and receive the treasure scroll.

  1. Read the first clue on the treasure scroll. It describes Bob leaving his shop and taking 1 step east, 7 steps north, 5 steps west and 1 step south before digging.
  2. Go to Bob’s Brilliant Axes in Lumbridge. From the doorway, take exactly 1 step east, 7 steps north, 5 steps west and 1 step south.
  3. Dig with your spade on the correct tile (the tile north of the north-western window of the small room attached to Bob’s Brilliant Axes, directly west of the plant).

  1. You will receive the next step of the treasure scroll.
  2. Read the second clue. It is a map that points to the door behind Lumbridge Castle near the Cook’s kitchen.
  3. Go behind Lumbridge Castle to the kitchen door and dig on the tile directly south-west of the large crate.

  1. You will receive a mysterious orb.
  2. Feel the mysterious orb. It will tell you how close you are to the next treasure based on its temperature (warmer = closer). This uses Chebyshev distance and ignores obstacles.
  3. Travel toward Draynor Village (walking or using an Amulet of glory). Continue feeling the orb to confirm you are getting warmer.
  4. Once near Draynor, dig just east of the village, north-west of the jail and south of the wheat field near Leela. Specifically dig four steps north of the bush in that area.
  5. You will receive another treasure scroll.

  1. Read the fourth clue. It is a Caesar shift cipher that reads: ESBZOPS QJH QFO.
  2. Decode the cipher by counting letter frequencies (or shifting the letters). The decoded location is DRAYNOR PIG PEN.
  3. Go to the pig pen just north of the market in Draynor Village (next to where Martin the Master Gardener stands) and dig in the centre of the pen.

  1. You will dig up an ancient casket. A faint whispering can be heard as you uncover it, though the words are unclear.
  2. Travel to the northernmost dock in Port Sarim, outside the Rusty Anchor Inn.

  1. Speak to Veos on the dock and give him the ancient casket.
  2. When asked what was inside, Veos will claim it is nothing important — just something that may prove useful back in Great Kourend. The quest is now complete.

Clue Details

Important: The Eastfloor spade does not work. If you get stuck on any clue, speak to Veos again for a hint (he can be found in The Sheared Ram or on the Port Sarim docks).

First Clue: Follow Bob’s exact path from Bob’s Brilliant Axes (1 east, 7 north, 5 west, 1 south) and dig west of the plant by the north-western window.
Second Clue: Dig south-west of the large crate behind Lumbridge Castle’s kitchen door.
Mysterious Orb: Feel the orb repeatedly. Warmer temperature means you are closer (Chebyshev distance). The dig site is four tiles north of the bush near Leela, north-west of the Draynor jail.
Final Cipher: ESBZOPS QJH QFO decodes to DRAYNOR PIG PEN. Dig in the centre of the pig pen north of Draynor market.

Completing the Quest

  1. After recovering the ancient casket, take it to Veos at the Port Sarim docks.
  2. Hand the casket over and finish the conversation to complete the quest.

Tips

  • Only a normal spade works — the Eastfloor spade will not dig the required spots.
  • If you lose track of a clue, talk to Veos again for a reminder.
  • An Amulet of glory makes the trip to Draynor Village much faster.
  • Low-level players should watch for aggressive jail guards near the third dig site.
  • The quest can be completed very quickly once you know the exact dig tiles.
  • Completion is required for the Client of Kourend quest.
