Location: | 'My Arm's Big Adventure' quest boss fight |
Preparation:
The Roc is an avian monster which can be encountered only during the 'My Arms Big Adventure' quest. After the quest is complete this very large bird may also be fought within the Nightmare Zone.
The Roc will use both Melee and Ranged attacks during the battle. Lower levels shouldn't underestimate this boss as it can deal 14 as a max hit with Melee and it can deal 20 as a max hit using Ranged repetitively. It is strongly advised to use the Protect from Missiles prayer while fighting The Roc, this will minimize damage taken from the ranged attacks. This monster can also kill players that are unprepared quickly, so it is strongly recommended to bring food, Prayer potions, and a one-click teleport.
Do not bring a dwarf multicannon to the fight against this monster, it will destroy a multi-cannon if a player attempts to use one.
The Battle:
During the battle against this monster, The Roc will often buffet the player with its wings. This will cause the player to knock over backwards, as well as stunning them and damaging them health wise. It is possible to avoid this from happening if the player stands against a wall or a rock, however the stun attack cannot be avoided. Since The Roc is weak against crush attacks, bringing a melee weapon with a crush attack is suggested. The disadvantage of using Melee during battle is The Roc will knock players back meaning that a player may only be able to deal a couple of hits before being buffeted by The Roc's wings. Ranged may be used as an alternative to melee which would allow a player to stand against a wall or a rock during battle.
This battle also has a safe spot which is located on the far end of the mountainside, near the ladder. If a player is positioned correctly in the safe spot it is possible to kill The Roc without taking any Melee damage. With this along with using the Protect from Melee prayer, the only thing needed to worry about is The Roc's wings buffeting.
For Pures, Lower Levels, or Players Without Prayer:
After the battle begins run towards the Goutweed and hide behind it to protect yourself from the melee attacks. Next to the Goutweed is a small rocky outcrop, standing here is a 100% safespot from The Roc which is useful for healing up as needed. It is possible to dodge The Roc's ranged attacks, but this requires good tacit and momentum which can be messed up from when The Roc's wings buffet.
The trick is to pace forwards and backwards with run on and do this every time in between the ranged attacks. If using ranged attacks you can attack twice with a shortbow, or once with magic. This will cause The Roc's rocks to fall behind you making it so you won't be taking any damage from The Roc aside from the buffeting wings. While you are stunned, use this time to heal up as needed as you are unable to move while being stunned.
